Empowering Communities
I’m passionate about giving back to the community, whether through organising events like Labor Appreciation Day or leading initiatives like the School Essentials Drive. These efforts have taught me the power of collaboration and the impact of small actions in making a meaningful difference.
Building Bonds Through Recognition
My friend Gopika Nair and I, Disha Boorela, teamed up to promote respect and gratitude by recognizing the contributions of unsung civic workers.
Starting with simple gestures like expressing thanks and offering small rewards, we aimed to uplift their morale and inspire other communities in Bangalore, creating a positive ripple effect across the city.
We organised initiatives for 150 workers in the Bellezea Community, including:
- Gratitude Days: Celebrating unsung workers with appreciation notes, activities, food, and recognition ceremonies.
- Workshops/Training: Offering basic financial and computer literacy sessions to empower their everyday lives.
- Story Sharing: Creating a platform for sharing stories that highlight the invaluable contributions of domestic help and others.
Wings of Hope
My journey with an NGO began in grade IX, when I raised 40,000 INR through crowdfunding to provide bags and stationery for 60 senior girls at CHAMPION GIRLS HOME in Bengaluru. This rewarding experience fueled my desire to create a broader impact.
Recognizing the need for larger-scale efforts, I now aim to launch new initiatives focused on both social and environmental impact:
- Recyclable Clothing Drive: Collect old clothes to be transformed into bags by elderly women, providing them employment and purpose.
- Stationery Collection Drive: Partner with schools to gather unused supplies and distribute them to underprivileged children.
- Employment for Women: Use funds raised to compensate women for making bags, fostering community and economic support.
Music Therapy
Through my research on music therapy, I've discovered the powerful connection between music and mental health. Music has a profound impact on emotional well-being, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It provides a non-verbal way to express feelings and process emotions, making it especially beneficial for those struggling with mental health challenges.
To create a more supportive environment for students, I aim to implement a music therapy program in schools. By incorporating music into their daily lives, students can learn to use it as a tool for self-expression, stress management, and emotional regulation. This program will not only enhance their mental health but also foster a sense of community and belonging.
